De Streken

De Streken is a wooden tidal object by visual artist Marc van Vliet and can be reached via a 150-metre-long footbridge. This installation on the mudflats, moves with the tides through the forces of the moon. The tide provides a different experience at every moment of the day. During low tide, the installation is a quiet spot on the mudflats and the gaze is directed outwards. During high tide, you find yourself in the middle of the water and looking inwards, towards the water.

This tidal installation involves the landscape, as far as the horizon reaches. You will become aware of the rotation of the planet on which we are located.

De Streken is realized in collaboration with Oerol and can be seen from the start of Oerol until mid-September.
Every year – until 2026 – it is rebuilt on the island in June.
Dates 2025: June 8 to September 14
