Adjacent to the Pieterpad, on a grassy area at the edge of a wood, lies a picnic spot – a place to take a short break between days of walking. Next to this picnic table, at the edge of the wood, you can see a dark orange ‘entrance’. This is where another path begins. This path, which leads into the wood, is a path without end.

What starts as a clearly defined ‘path’, a human intervention, a work of art,  gradually changes. The path lies ever closer to the ground, its course becomes overgrown and eventually blends into the surroundings.

The landscape of Het Hogeland has been shaped by human hands for centuries. Land was reclaimed, water was channelled, and natural areas were also created. The woodland near Eenrum is a nature compensation area, created to mitigate the ecological impact of industrial activities in the region.

With ‘Nature’, we are reversing that trend. Human intervention is gradually being returned to the landscape.

A path with no end. What begins as a clear route slowly becomes overgrown and eventually blends into the landscape.
