Watdataangaat
The Frisian Wadden coast is one art piece richer. In memory of Joop Mulder, the work Watdataaangaat has been placed on the Sedyk near Koehool. The work of art, which functions as a bench, was designed by visual artist Marc van Vliet and financed by close friends of Joop. The title ‘Watdataaangaa’t is referring to a frequently used statement by Joop.
The design of the bench refers to art piece ‘De Streken’ and the two works are therefore connected to each other. “The railings can be moved. You can look over the mudflats, with Terschelling on the horizon, or look at the Frisian landscape,” says Marc van Vliet. In addition, a compass rose has been placed on Terschelling as a reference to Joop and as a marker of the ‘Streken’. With a plug in the middle of the compass rose. “When Joop got frustrated by all the regulations, he shouted that he would pull the plug on the island. Here lies this plug. On the dike near Oosterend, at the entrance where ‘de Streken’ is placed every year.”
